Everybody Dies

Everybody Dies is the sixth song in English from ”Uncle Pop”,
 released October 7th, 2022.

When in my early twenties, I met this old man at the bar ”Gröne Jägaren” in Stockholm, standing by the roulette, every now and then crying out loud ”everbody dies!”. I guess it must have made an impression on me, as I still remember it, and one day I had this song in my head, so cheers to him! I guess that he would probably be in his nineties now, if he has survived his heavy drinking, but if not I’ll at least give him that he was right. 😎

World on Fire

World on Fire is the fifth song in English from ”Uncle Pop”,
released March 11th, 2022.

We’ve been aware of the greenhouse effect for a long time now, and time is running out for taking the necessary actions. At that point in time, we instead see the biggest war in Europe since WWII. Let’s hope this will be the turning point where we come together and put out that fire, saving the world for future generations!

Insomnia

Insomnia is the fourth song in English from ”Uncle Pop”,
released September 17th, 2021.

You know that feeling where you are dead tired, you might be half asleep, but you just won’t come to rest? You might think you hear a strange sound, something is itching, your legs are restless or your mind won’t stop spinning.

”The night is dark
and I’m wide awake
My restless legs
kicking at the bed
My eyes won’t close
Hey, what’s that sound?
Ghosts are haunting
my restless mind”

Then, finally, the morning comes and still dead tired you embrace the chance to get out of that bed, that state of insomnia. Oh, the smell of coffee in the morning! And those first rays of light!

A fresh new day
chase the ghosts away
– what a blessing”

The album artwork is from Lofoten, Norway. Looking carefully, you can barely see some ”ghosts” (aka ”storm birds”) in the lightest part.

Living

Living is the third song in English from ”Uncle Pop”,
released July 9th, 2021.

Living is a song about some characters I have met throughout life,
who all have in common that they seemed to be trapped in something they really disliked.
It might be a bad relation or a job, where they are ”dying”,
rather than leave and aim for a better life.

”Why spend your life on things you hate?
Spend it on the things you love.”

Something, some things…

Something is the second song in English from ”Uncle Pop”,
released May 28th, 2021.

Sometimes, writing a song is about something specific, like my song ”Cancer” about my childhood friend who passed away last Summer. Sometimes, it’s more about the music, and the lyrics just add flavour to that feeling.

Something is a flirt with the synth music of the 1980’s
and a play with words based on the old English wedding rhyme:

”Something old,
Something new,
Something borrowed,
Something blue”

Who is the leader of the free world?

The Beacon of Light is my first track in English.
It’s a song about the current state of the leadership in the free world, as we know it.

My paternal grandfather went to Munich, Germany, in 1938 for a study. He met a nice girl, they married and she came to live with him in Gothenburg, Sweden. The following year the Second World War started, and the next year after that, my father was born.

I was born during the Cold War and had my defining youth in the 1980’s. For me, the Berlin Wall had been around ”forever” and Eastern Europe was closed. The leader of the free world was Ronald Reagan, but also Margaret Thatcher was a strong leader, ruling UK for a decade. Meanwhile, a Soviet submarine carrying nuclear weapons got stranded in the archipelago of Karlskrona, Sweden. We lived in fear of a nuclear war.

During WWII charismatic leaders such as Churchill, Rosevelt, Stalin and Hitler were fighting for their beliefs. Fortunately, the former two prevailed.

Presently, the same countries has given us Johnson, Trump, Putin and Merkel.

Who is now the leader of the free world?

In my eyes, the world changed in 2016, when UK and USA lowered it’s ambitions for the world and looked inwards to themselves. It was always a mystery to me how someone like Hitler could have been elected in free elections, but the present polarization gives a certain understanding of how something can escalate badly. 

The Beacon of Light is now Angela Merkel, and the EU. Who would have thought that? I hope we’ll soon work together with UK and USA for a better world again.
